REQ:IQ vs. Remote Falcon

Both let your viewers take the wheel — request songs, vote on what plays next, watch the lights respond. Here's how they line up, feature by feature.

Remote Falcon is the free, open-source pioneer of viewer-driven shows — mature, self-hostable, and endlessly customizable if you like writing your own HTML.

IQ Studio is an all-in-one, fully managed platform. Viewer requests and voting live in REQ:IQ — one tool in a suite that also remaps sequences, builds setlists, and generates timing tracks. The comparison below is REQ:IQ vs. Remote Falcon head to head; the wider toolkit is covered at the end.

Beyond requests: the rest of IQ Studio

Remote Falcon focuses on one job — viewer interaction — and does it well. IQ Studio bundles that with the rest of your show pipeline. These tools have no Remote Falcon equivalent.

ToolWhat it doesIQRF
MAP:IQAI sequence remapping — retarget any xLights sequence to your yard, prop-by-prop, and export a ready-to-use .xmap.
SET:IQSmart setlist curator — BPM-aware, calendar-driven nightly setlists with openers, closers and after-hours, exported to FPP/xSchedule.
TRK:IQAuto-generate 14 xLights timing tracks (and synced lyrics) from a single MP3.
BEAT:IQIn-browser beat, onset and tempo detection that outputs timing tracks.
WIRE:IQWiring diagrams, controller port assignments and power planning from your layout.

Where Remote Falcon still shines

A fair comparison cuts both ways. If these matter most to you, Remote Falcon is a genuinely great fit:

  • It's open-source. Read every line of the source and shape it to your liking.
  • Self-hosting. Host it on your own hardware with full control of your data.
  • Total page control. If you love hand-writing HTML/CSS, the viewer page is a blank canvas.
  • A big, proven community. Years of shows, templates, and forum knowledge behind it.

Common questions

Can I move over from Remote Falcon?

Yes. REQ:IQ connects through the same kind of FPP plugin / xSchedule plugin approach, syncing the sequences already on your player. Your songs, categories, and visibility settings come across — you just re-point the show.

What's 'Crowd Pick' voting?

Instead of voting on a fixed admin list, Crowd Pick builds each round from what viewers are actually requesting (filtered by your safeguards so every option is playable). On a busy night it turns demand into a quick, fair vote; on a quiet night Auto mode falls back to a normal jukebox.

Is REQ:IQ free?

Yes — REQ:IQ is free to use, with no subscription and no per-request fees. The difference from Remote Falcon is open-source and self-hosting: Remote Falcon's code is public and you can run it on your own hardware, while REQ:IQ is a managed service we host for you.

Remote Falcon is an independent open-source project and a trademark of its respective owners. This comparison reflects publicly documented features and is provided for informational purposes; IQ Studio features marked “partial” may still be rolling out in beta.
